    `Oh yes,` I said a trifle impatiently, `we know the Gows are rich.`
    `No,` I said. `I can`t see.`
    `Your need,` he said, `is for a man who really loves you.`
    `The problem, ` I explained, `is quite simple.`
`All we have done, Paula explained patiently, `is to cut two branches off this cherry tree.`
    `You keep it,` she said, `and let's start.`
`If you don't mind my saying so,` Connie said, `this is something you'll want to look at immediately.`
`The thing is,` he told Mary Ann, `surprises are very, very good for people.`
`So tell me, ` he asked, `how did uou get into the police department?`
`Unfortunately,` he wrote, `your portrait of Eula Hall was not very good.`
`In the final analysis, `he once said, ` we must rely on man's ingenuity.`
`Why, ` he asked, `don't you let me buy you a meal or something?`
    `How long,` he asked, `shall I beheld hostage?`
    `Mom, `she asked, `where am I going?`
`Ladies and gentlemen, `he rasped, `there is only one verdict you can possibly reach.`
`Oh hell, `Castle said, `who would ring us at this hour?`

1)"The Partner" John Grisham

One

I FOUND HIM in Ponta Pora, a pleasant little town in Brazil, on the border of Paraguay, in a land still known as the Frontier.
They found him living in a shaded brick house on Rua Tiradentes, a wide avenue with trees down the center and barefoot boys dribbling soccer balls along the hot pavement.
They found him alone, as best they could tell, though a maid came and went at odd hours during the eight days they hid and watched.
They found him living a comfortable life but certainly not one of luxury. The house was modest and could've been owned by any local merchant. The car was a 1983 Volkswagen Beetle, manufactured in Sao Paulo with a million others. It was red and clean, polished to a shine. Their first photo of him was snapped as he waxed it just inside the gate to his short driveway.

2. Chronology of Personal Computers
1947
December 23
Three scientists at Bell Telephone Laboratories, William Shockley, Walter Brattain, and John Bardeen demonstrate their new invention of the point-contact transistor amplifier. The name transistor is short for "transfer resistance". (Miniaturization of electronic circuits via the transistor is a key development making personal desktop computers small, reliable, and affordable.)
1952
January
A complaint is filed against IBM, alleging monopolistic practices in its computer business, in violation of the Sherman Act. (The government's antitrust investigations and trial against IBM will drag on for thirty years, finally being dismissed in 1982. IBM will cautiously monitor its microcomputer business practices, fearful of a repeat of government scrutiny.)

3)Royal Bank of Scotland
And the cupboard was bare
Apr 18th 2008
From Economist.com
Banks pass round the begging bowl
EVER since the emperor bought new clothes, there have been few instances of self-delusion quite as stark as that of cavalier British bankers at the start of 2008. Just as rivals in America and other parts of Europe were writing down billions on their investments in dodgy mortgage loans and frantically raising money, the bosses of Britain’s biggest banks were instead blithely increasing their dividends in a blustery display of financial strength. Just how hollow it was became apparent on Friday April 18th when it emerged that Royal Bank of Scotland, the country’s second biggest bank, might have to raise money to satisfy bank regulators.

4) «RIDING THE BULLET» Stephen King
My hand seemed to float out like a hand in a dream. I wish that it had been a dream, but it wasn't; it had all the sharp edges of reality. The smell on top was pine. The smell underneath was some chemical, probably formaldehyde. I was riding with a dead man.
The Mustang rushed along Ridge Road at sixty miles an hour, chasing its high beams under the light of a polished button moon. To either side, the trees crowding the road danced and writhed in the wind. George Staub smiled at me with his empty eyes, then let go of my hand and returned his attention to the road. In high school I'd read Dracula, and now a line from it recurred, clanging in my head like a cracked bell: The dead drive fast.

On the bedside table lay a red leather-bound copy of the Bible.
He went over to his bookshelf and picked out a small, blue, cardboard-bound book.
