Французский писатель, один из основоположников жанра научно-фантастического романа

Родился в Нанте, изучал юриспруденцию в Париже, с 1848 по 1863 год писал пьесы и либретто для опер. В 1863 году опубликовал роман "Пять недель на воздушном шаре"; с этого романа и началась карьера Верна как писателя-фантаста. За свою жизнь он опубликовал свыше 60 научно-фантастических и приключенческих романов, повестей и рассказов, среди них - знаменитая трилогия, состоящая из романов "Дети капитана Гранта" (1868), "Двадцать тысяч лье под водой" (1870) и "Таинственный остров" (1875). Вряд ли будет преувеличением сказать, что Верн предвосхитил многие научные открытия - в его романах присутствуют субмарины и вертолеты, управляемые ракеты и "живые картинки" (кино); также он первым заговорил о полетах в космос и об освоении космического пространства. По романам Верна поставлено множество фильмов - первый из которых, "Путешествие на Луну", был снят французским пионером кинематографа Жоржем Мелье в 1902 году.
